This past Friday was my wedding anniversary, so we headed up to Flint so we could have my mom watch Nik while we did a couple "grown up" things. It was a great weekend for the most part ... took Nik to a local mall that is filled with various life-size movie replicas as well as all sorts of other nostalgic things that the owner collects - that was a complete ball (and hey it cost nothing - bonus). Friday night mom watch Nik while Tim and I went up to the Machine Shop (local rock club) for Karoke - we got to spend time with some friends we haven't seen much lately and Tim did "I Don't Wanna Be" by Gavin for me! MY FAVORITE PART of the weekend was the Renaissance Festival - a festival that happens every year in my hometown area. It is an old time renaissance village consisting of several shops with handmade and other interesting merchandise, scattered stages with different perfomances from fire juggling, comedy acts, dancers, musicians, etc. all set to the renaissance theme as well as authentic style food (and some of the usual festival crap food). There is so much to see and do at this festival, I never get tired of going year after year. And to add more fun, lots of patrons dress the part (see me up there?!) and everyone uses the lingo from that time frame, etc. If one ever comes to your area, you really should check it out - some are better and some are not quite as elaborate than ours, but all in all, it is a great experience!

I am SO jealous!! Okay, now I saw some of your other pictures, and I saw the Star Wars life-size replicas. But I didn't notice any Yodas. Were there any there? And the Renaissance Festival is so awesome! I haven't been there in years! And when I was there I didn't really get to experience the full effect and enjoy it all. Not sure if they have one that comes around nearby or not now that I'm in a completely different state. I'll definitely have to find out! And I've always loved the clothing! So beautiful! At any rate, I am utterly jealous between the museum/mall and the Festival, I am so wishing I was there!

Dude! Yoda was there, but he was in this area that was roped off and had many other things cluttered around him (Jar Jar was in the same situation) - I was bummed I couldn't get mine and my boys pic with them! BOOOOO! But hopefully they will have him placed somewhere else by the next visit home. I have been attending Ren Fair for like 13+ years - the one in Holly I believe is one of the biggest ones they have - AND I got to be a VIP - my girlfriend works out there, so that allowed us access to the secret clubhouses behind the shops with food and drink, not too mention the little pallet trails you find leading back from them through the swamp leading to the smoking clubhouses - weeeeee! I bought the awesome earcuff - a dragon that peeks over my ears with green-jeweled eyes, some whipped honey, some of my white tea oil - oh and have to have a turkey leg!

Does your Ren Fest stay there? I thought they were all traveling? I used to know some people that worked the traveling festival, but I haven't seen them in forever.

Nope it is seasonal as well ... but the grounds it is on is specifically ONLY for that. So a lot of the shop buildings are permanently built, etc. Lots of land - I have watched the festival grow so much since they started it. So big you get lost and can't remember which way you came from. Some of the people working their travel around to various festivals and some of them only work our festival.
